Our commitment to producing architecturally pleasing work while pushing the boundaries of sustainable design has encouraged Midori Architects to become involved with a number of sustainable design initiatives. Each of these initiatives seek to improve the built environment and to preserve, and even restore, the natural environment for future generations. We believe in time management of design and deliverable which manifests in our projects to utmost perfection.


The Midori Architects design approach lies in our aim to create profitable projects for our clients that are energy efficient and thermally comfortable for occupants but also serve their communities while reducing the negative impacts on the environment caused by the use of finite natural resources.

We believe in design which aims to protect the environment and natural resources, recreating urban areas and buildings that are designed in order to fully cover their energy requirements without induce environmental damage. Natural cooling, compared to air conditioning, not only provides energy saving, economic and environmental benefits, but also constitutes a different approach, having as its goal, human comfort and well-being. We try to avoid big glass facades facing east or west, because that would make the building like an oven in a tropical climate.

Protection of the buildings from the summer sun, primarily by shading but also by the appropriate treatment of the building envelope (i.e. use of reflective colours and surfaces). Covered open-air corridors, ventilated roofs, fiber-glass insulation and the use of natural materials are some low impact measures that help the building stay cool in tropical & bring in both natural light and ventilation. All of us affect the energy performance of the buildings we live in. If we are aware of proper design, materials and use of technologies, we can have reap massive energy savings for the buildings of the future.

I have been fascinated with buildings ever since I started playing with my brother’s Lego sets as a child. This spark eventually turned into a lifelong passion that would shape my career.  My path started out in trying to balance my flair for engineering and passion for design and the arts, which led me to secure a place at the School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University, Chennai. An area of international research which caught my attention in my final year of undergrad school was the frontier field of sustainability and the much-discussed ‘green revolution’. From there on, there was no turning back, my passion for all things sustainable, drove me to practice at T. R Hamzah & Yeang Sdn, Bhd in Kuala Lumpur. In 2009, I chose to return to academics and pursued my Masters in Sustainable Environmental Design at the Architectural Association, London, UK. Post-Graduation, my focus shifted to broadening my knowledge in Green building certification and worked as a green analyst with Design Partner Architects Singapore & with Environmental Design Solutions Pvt Ltd India. I am a LEED® Accredited Professional with a specialty in Building Design & Construction, a certified GRIHA Evaluator & Trainer, and a Green Mark Manager (GMM) from the BCA Academy Singapore. Starting Midori Architects was a natural step in my journey. As an innovator, I wanted to approach design challenges with a fresh, unique, modern sustainable perspective that crafts spaces for a life well lived.
